They're noticing how many people have abandoned playing their game, so this is their attempt of getting more people to buy the game, and possibly the dlc pack. Just milking whatever is left of this game.

CoD has been getting free weekends since MW2. Like SanAndreasPsyco said, steam does this with a lot of othe titles as well.

In  a coop game (like killing floor), a free weekend is amazing. Competitive fps games though... Most people who got banned are playing, most people who want to try hacking are playing on second accounts.... It's just not a good business strategy for CoD. I feel they would be better off discounting the game for a weekend, or running an ad campaign on the new dlc. Or by far the absolute best way to increase sales would be to; give the dlc maps out for a weekend to everyone who owns Black Ops 2 already.
